PROGRAMS AT FHNS:
Program Goals:
Forest Hill Nursery School (FHNS) offers unique programs for early childhood education. The classroom routine is centered on the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive needs of each child.
The specific goals of our programs include:
Meet the individual physical and emotional needs of each child.
Develop a good self-image in each child.
Help the children gain an understanding of their social world.
Build strong, healthy bodies, and achieve adequate gross motor development.
As a co-op, FHNS parents work directly in the classroom, and therefore, have the opportunity to aid in the learning process. By helping in the classroom, parents can more easily reinforce the lessons learned and help their children be prepared for the challenges of full-day kindergarten and beyond.
PARTIAL Co-Op Options Available
Are you interested in joining the FHNS family, but are unable to volunteer in the classroom? We offer a Partial Co-Op option for serveral of our classes. Families will pay a slightly higher tuition rate, but volunteering as a classroom helper will not be required. Families choosing this option will still be required to join a FHNS committee. Please note: Partial Co-Op spaces are limited and available on a first-come, first served basis.
Discovery Program
Two Year Olds and Young Threes
FHNS’s Discovery Program is designed to help ease the transition for two year olds (and their parents!) before embarking on a preschool program. This 90 minute class meets once per week on Thursdays. Children and parents will have the opportunity to discover learning through moderately structured activities, participate in “free discovery,” interact with new friends, and make lasting memories of early learning through play.

Bridge Program
Older Two Year Olds and Young Threes
FHNS’s new Bridge program is designed to provide a more independent learning experience for older two year old's and younger three year old's who do not meet the age requirements for the FHNS preschool program. This two hour class meets once per week on Wednesdays. Students will have the opportunity to learn through structured activities such as circle time, stories, singing and dancing, as well as developmentally appropriate learning centers. They will also have ample time for free play and interacting with new friends. Students must be fully toilet-trained and turn three between September 2nd and December 31st to enroll in this class. Each session has 1 teacher and 1-2 helpers/co-op parents present.

3s Program
Three Year Olds and young fours
The 3s preschool program for three year olds and young four year olds provides students with opportunities to learn through circle time, structured small group activities and developmentally appropriate learning centers. They will also have ample time for free play and socializing with friends. The class meets twice per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students must be three years old by September 1st and fully toilet-trained. Each session has 1 teacher and 1-2 helpers/co-op parents present.

3s EXTENSION
Three Year Olds and young fours
The 3s Extension allows our three- and four-year-old students who are already enrolled in our 3s preschool program to extend their learning experience to three consecutive days each week. The 3s Extension is held on Wednesday afternoons and is open to 8 students total from either AM and PM classes, on a first-come, first served basis. Each session has 1 teacher and 1-2 helpers/co-op parents present.

The 4s preschool program for four year olds and young five year olds meets three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Students must be four years old by September 1st and fully toilet-trained. Each session has 1 teacher and 1 helper/co-op parent present.

4s EXTENSIONS
FOUR YeaR Olds and Young Fives
In addition to the regular class schedule, four- and five-year-old students who are already enrolled in our 4s preschool program have the opportunity to add one or two enrichment classes to extend their schedule to four or five days a week. Each class is open to 8 students total from either AM and PM classes, on a first-come, first served basis. Each session has 1 teacher and 1 helper/co-op parent present.
PALS (Play, Art, Literacy, Socialization)
PALS classes are held weekly on Tuesday afternoons. The class allows students to socialize, work on literacy-based activities and have additional time to play and learn in small groups. Each class is based upon a fairy tale and students work on story development and retelling by acting, using puppets, and story props.
STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics)
STEAM classes are held weekly on Thursday afternoons. Opportunities for STEAM activities are explored by the inspiration of children's literature, including working with gears, exploring habitats, robots, basic coding, and engineering activities.

Partners Program for K-3 HomeschoolERS
Through the Partners program, committed homeschooling families can have the weekly guidance of an Early Childhood/Elementary teacher to aid in their journey during the early years of learning. This drop-off class will take place on Tuesday mornings, and is designed for children in kindergarten through third grade to gain one-on-one and small group learning experiences in the subjects of reading, writing, and math. The teacher and parent(s) will meet periodically to discuss progress and planning for each child. Individual student need, interest and abilities will be taken into account with planning.
